Why Counselling?
Life can feel busy, overwhelming or confusing at times. It’s not always easy to make sense of how you feel, especially when you’re trying to manage everything on your own.
Counselling offers a regular space to slow down and pay attention to what’s happening inside — your thoughts, feelings, memories and the patterns that keep showing up in your life.
In our work together, there is no expectation to be ‘fixed’ or to have everything figured out. Instead, we focus on understanding your experiences more deeply, so that you can make choices that feel more aligned with who you are and what you need.
Hello, I’m Banu
I’m Banu Kaya, MBACP – Registered Member, integrative counsellor based in Twickenham, London. I offer online counselling, and in-person sessions where available.
My aim is to offer a calm, supportive space where you can pause, reflect and reconnect with yourself, at a pace that feels right for you.
I bring warmth, curiosity and care to my work, while keeping clear professional boundaries so that you can feel safe, respected and heard.
My Journey
Before training as a counsellor, I spent many years working in marketing, and later in education, supporting people in different ways. Over time, I found myself becoming more and more interested in the emotional stories behind people’s lives, the parts that don’t always get spoken about.
I noticed how often people carried worries, self-doubt or painful experiences on their own, without a space to explore them. I became increasingly drawn to conversations that allowed people to slow down, reflect and feel truly listened to.
This growing interest in people’s inner worlds, relationships and personal growth eventually led me towards counselling, where I could be alongside people in a more focused and meaningful way.
My Professional Background
Here is a brief overview of my professional background as a counsellor and in supporting people:
- CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
- MBACP – Registered Member
- Supervised counselling placement experience working with adult clients
- Experience supporting young people in an educational setting
- Relevant professional experience in roles focused on working with people
How I Work
I work integratively, drawing from Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches. This means I bring together different ways of thinking about your experiences, so that we can find what feels most helpful for you.
Counselling is not one-size-fits-all. Each person comes with their own history, culture, relationships and hopes. Together, we’ll explore what you would like to focus on and what you hope to gain from our work.
The relationship between us is at the heart of the counselling process. I aim to offer a space that feels collaborative, respectful and gently curious, where you can go at your own pace and bring whatever feels important for you.
A Little About Me
Outside of my work as a counsellor, I value time spent with the people who are important to me, as well as moments of quiet and reflection. I enjoy reading, walking in nature and exploring new places at a gentle pace, taking photographs. I bring this same thoughtful, steady approach into my counselling work, creating a space where you can arrive just as you are.
